Latest Additions to the Street Fighter Film Cast
The upcoming Street Fighter movie is expanding its roster with several new cast members. This week, the entertainment community buzzed with confirmation that Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, originally a rapper and now an actor, will take on the role of Balrog in the upcoming film. This news was initially hinted at by Jackson himself and has since been officially confirmed. Additionally, the role of Dan Hibiki, known for being one of the less formidable characters in the Street Fighter series, will be portrayed by comedian Andrew Schulz.
Deadline reports that Schulz’s casting as Dan is quite fitting given the character’s reputation for comic relief and often being the butt of jokes. This film will be the first time Dan Hibiki appears in a live-action format. Schulz, known for his roles in The Underdoggs and the new version of White Men Can’t Jump, as well as the Netflix sitcom Tires, brings a solid background in comedy to the role. He also hosts the popular comedy podcast Flagrant Pod and his latest comedy special aired on Netflix.
A further announcement from The Hollywood Reporter has solidified Jackson’s role as Balrog and revealed additional casting details. The report confirms Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, and Orville Peck as Vega. Furthermore, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, celebrated WWE superstar and former World Champion, is set to portray Akuma, a key antagonist in the storyline.
Newcomer Callina Liang has been chosen to play Chun-Li. Liang, who has appeared in the 2024 supernatural thriller Presence, joins the project which will be directed by Kitao Sakurai. Although initially slated for a 2026 release by Sony, the film’s release has been postponed, but it is still expected to premiere next year. Production is slated to commence in August.
Additional Updates from the Street Fighter Universe
In related news, Capcom has revealed that the character Sagat will be added to Street Fighter 6 this coming August. This update will also introduce a new collection of “very thirsty” swimsuits in the game, adding a fresh twist to the character outfits.
