Henry Golding Says Being James Bond Is ‘Every Actor’s Kind of Nightmare’ Because of Too Much ‘Overhanging Cultural Pressure’: ‘Maybe I’m Just a P—‘

Henry Golding recently expressed his thoughts on the possibility of becoming the next James Bond.

Reflections on the Role of James Bond

During the premiere of “The Old Guard 2” in Los Angeles on June 25, Golding shared with People, “I think that’s every actor’s kind of nightmare.” He elaborated, “But at the same time, you’re also hoping to bring something fresh to the franchise. Why not introduce more agents or more OO’s? That would be a lot more interesting because you wouldn’t have the same constraints and expectations.”

Despite his initial hesitation, Golding confessed, “Maybe I’m just a scaredy-cat. I don’t know. But I think I would enjoy it so much more if it weren’t for the looming cultural pressure.”

Golding is among several actors being considered for the role of the iconic martini-drinking spy in the upcoming movie. In November 2024, The Bangin Beats listed prominent candidates including Theo James, Regé-Jean Page, Aaron Pierre, James Norton, and Idris Elba.

The role of James Bond was last portrayed by Daniel Craig in the 2021 movie, “No Time to Die.” Previous actors who have taken on the role include George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and notably, Sean Connery. The character of Bond was created by British author Ian Fleming in 1953, and the film series began in 1962 with Connery starring as Bond in “Dr. No.”

On June 25, Amazon MGM Studios announced that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next installment of the spy series, with Tanya Lapointe as an executive producer. Amy Pascal and David Heyman were previously announced as producers.

Villeneuve expressed his deep connection to the Bond series, stating, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are linked to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, starting with ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I am a die-hard fan of Bond. For me, he’s sacred territory. I aim to respect the tradition while paving the way for many new adventures to follow. It’s a significant responsibility but also incredibly thrilling for me, and an immense honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely excited to bring him back to the screen. We’re grateful for the trust Amazon MGM Studios has placed in us.”

As of now, Amazon MGM Studios has not announced a writer or official casting for the forthcoming Bond film, nor is there a confirmed release date.
