The Final Episode of “The Last of Us” Season 2 Approaching, Season 3 Confirmed
The second season of “The Last of Us” is drawing to a conclusion with its final episode set to air on Sunday, May 25. Fans of the series can rejoice, however, as not only has a third season been confirmed, but there is also a strong desire within the team to push for a fourth season. Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby, who made her first appearance at the start of Season 2, will see an increased focus in the forthcoming season after being somewhat sidelined following major plot developments this season.
Season 3 to Spotlight Abby
According to Catherine O’Hara, who portrays Gail in the series, Season 3 will delve deeply into Abby’s storyline. In an interview with Variety, she revealed that the upcoming season will prominently feature Abby, aligning with the narrative of “The Last of Us: Part II,” where Ellie pursues Abby. This development is expected to add depth and new dimensions to the ongoing story.
No Return for Gail in Season 3
Despite the anticipation surrounding the new season, O’Hara shared that her character, Gail, will not be making a comeback in Season 3. She mentioned that showrunner Craig Mazin has decided against including Gail in the upcoming season, suggesting that her character was primarily developed to complement Joel and Ellie’s journey in Season 2. However, there is still a possibility that Gail could reappear in future seasons.
As for the end of Season 2, it is poised to leave audiences on the edge of their seats with a cliffhanger, strategically designed to keep viewers eager for Season 3. Mazin expressed hope that the finale sets the stage compellingly enough to ensure viewers return for the next installment.
Furthermore, Mazin hinted that Season 3 could potentially be longer than Season 2. He explained that the narrative for the upcoming season provides more opportunities, which might lead to an extension in the number of episodes.
