Sony has unveiled the lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers for May 2025.
In a recent update on the PlayStation Blog, it was disclosed that from May 6 through June 2, PlayStation Plus members will have the opportunity to add three new titles to their collection at no additional cost: Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.
Notably absent from the May offerings is Until Dawn, despite speculation that it might be included in this month’s PlayStation Plus games.
Sony provided detailed descriptions for each of the upcoming games:
Ark: Survival Ascended | PS5
Step into a re-envisioned universe of survival and adventure with Ark: Survival Ascended. This game, rebuilt from scratch using Unreal Engine 5, invites players to tame and breed a vast array of dinosaurs and ancient creatures. Players can explore various landscapes, craft tools, and construct shelter, all while battling to become the apex predator. This enhanced version boasts all the original Ark worlds like Scorched Earth and both parts of Ark Genesis, among others. It also supports various multiplayer options, including public online sessions for up to 70 players, private games for up to 8, and a local split-screen mode for two players.
Balatro | PS5, PS4
Balatro combines the thrill of poker with the strategic depth of a roguelike deck builder. Players engage in illicit poker games, utilizing special joker cards that can alter the state of play and trigger powerful combos. The goal is to amass chips, overcome challenging blinds, and discover hidden cards and strategies that will aid in defeating the final boss. This game demands cunning and strategy to navigate its progressively challenging levels and secure a victory.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun | PS5, PS4
Dive into the Warhammer 40,000 universe with Boltgun, a game that melds the intense action of classic first-person shooters with the iconic aesthetics of 90’s retro games. Players assume the role of a battle-hardened Space Marine tasked with a dangerous journey across the galaxy to confront Chaos Space Marines and the daemons of Chaos. Featuring dynamic levels filled with enemies, this game promises a nostalgic yet fresh shooter experience as players run, jump, and fight through a barrage of enemies using an array of Space Marine weaponry.
In related news, Sony also revealed that a significant number of games will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library next month. Notable titles set to be withdrawn include Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of the first-party games Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which will subsequently be unavailable on modern gaming consoles.
