A Minecraft Movie 2 Sounds Like A Sure Thing

Sequel to ‘A Minecraft Movie’ on the Horizon

The cinematic adaptation of Minecraft has emerged as one of the standout box office hits of 2025, making news of a forthcoming sequel hardly unexpected. Mike De Luca, a senior figure at Warner Bros., has recently shared insights regarding the company’s sequel plans.

In an interview with Deadline, De Luca revealed that the development of a sequel to ‘A Minecraft Movie’ is set to commence very soon. He also mentioned that a follow-up to ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is in the pipeline as well.

Although the contracts are not finalized yet, De Luca expressed that the projects are on the brink of official confirmation, stating, “The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”

Jared Hess Enthusiastic About Returning to Minecraft’s World

Jared Hess, the director behind ‘A Minecraft Movie,’ also spoke with Deadline, expressing excitement over the potential to direct a sequel. He described the Minecraft universe as “expansive” and ripe with opportunities for additional narratives.

“There were so many aspects we barely touched on but are eager to explore,” Hess remarked. “The thought of crafting a sequel excites me greatly, and it looks like discussions are already in motion, which thrills me. Diving back into that world would be immensely enjoyable. The fans really enjoyed the teaser we included in the end credits, and their reaction has been overwhelmingly positive,” he added.

Hess hinted that the sequel might bring more focus on the character Alex, introduced towards the conclusion of the first film. Hess suggested that Alex, alongside Jack Black’s character Steve, could lead the narrative in the upcoming sequel.

‘A Minecraft Movie’ has accrued over $550 million worldwide, positioning it as the second highest-grossing video game movie to date. It continues to perform well, with prospects to rise further in the rankings, although surpassing ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, which grossed $1.3 billion, remains uncertain.
