Elizabeth Olsen, known for her role as Scarlet Witch, has indicated that she likely won’t appear in the upcoming Avengers films, Secret Wars or Avengers: Doomsday.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were eager to see Scarlet Witch make a comeback after her last appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Attention! The following contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the first season of Agatha All Along.

It seemed that Scarlet Witch met her demise at the conclusion of the 2022 MCU movie and did not reappear in the Disney+ series Agatha All Along, disappointing many. Olsen had mentioned she would consider reprising her role as Scarlet Witch “if there’s a compelling reason to bring her back.”
However, if Scarlet Witch does return to the MCU, it won’t be in the Avengers series. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen confirmed she won’t be in London for the production of the Russo brothers’ next two Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars.
The reason? She is currently prioritizing her roles in non-Marvel films. Both Doomsday and Secret Wars are set to begin their consecutive shoots in London, while Olsen is gearing up to shoot a pilot for the FX drama, Seven Sisters.
Is there more to her statement? Could Olsen be attempting to mislead with her comments to The Hollywood Reporter? It wouldn’t be the first time an MCU actor has provided deceptive information. Perhaps there’s a plan to make Scarlet Witch’s potential involvement a stunning surprise, and publicly denying her participation could be part of that strategy.
Here’s the current status: Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom, and Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange in Secret Wars. Additionally, there are whispers about various characters appearing, including The Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts.
All eyes are set on London to spot which MCU celebrities will be spotted during the filming. Expect a flurry of updates from vigilant fans online in the near future.
Meanwhile, the MCU continues to expand. Thunderbolts is slated for release in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart will premiere in June, and Phase 6 will commence with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
Earlier this month, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as a “new beginning” for the MCU, laying the groundwork for future phases. Joe Russo emphasized their interest in villains who see themselves as heroes, noting, “That’s when they become three-dimensional and truly compelling. With an actor like Robert Downey, you have to craft a rich, complex character for the audience. That’s where our focus lies.”
Avengers: Doomsday is set to debut on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027.
Last year, Kevin Feige hinted at the introduction of X-Men characters in the upcoming MCU films during the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore. He revealed that audiences could expect to see “familiar X-Men characters” soon, though he did not specify which ones or in which movies.
Feige also mentioned that the X-Men would play a significant role in the MCU following Secret Wars. “Post-Endgame was about closing a chapter and starting anew. Now, as we approach Secret Wars, we already have a clear narrative path set out, which prominently includes the X-Men,” he explained.
In October, Marvel Studios scheduled three untitled movie projects for 2028, hinting that one might be an X-Men film.
