ATTLAS – Bloom [EP]

After a stellar year, filled with multiple successful hits, the incredibly talented Canadian composer ATTLAS is back with the release of his highly anticipated new EP: ‘Bloom’. Highly recommended by the likes of deadmau5, Jeff Hartford, aka ATTLAS, stands out with his serene new production, which deviates from his otherwise darker sound. To put it in his own words, this five-track EP embodies “a small story of frost melting, winter thawing to colors and sounds” and is representative of an exceedingly emotional journey, which is soothing, sensual and sublime. 

This EP kicks off with the mesmerising ‘Shadow Play’, a track that embodies the classic ATTLAS flavour to it, filled with airy emotional layers of soft percussions, delicate guitar strums, wonderfully melodic synths and the infectious vocals of Lune that remain simple but effective, giving it a sway-worthy oomph.

We then move onto ‘Ryatt‘, a previously released track that takes the listener on a wistful journey complete with a deep bass, lightly placed chordal elements and shimmery synths. It becomes fairly evident here that just like the snow thaws into the ground as summer hails, this track unravels into layers of hopeful dreaming.

Continuing along similar sentimental lines,  we have ‘Colors‘ featuring the beautiful voice of Kye Sones, which tells a tale of forlorn love, supplemented by an ambient orchestral percussion and some stunning piano work, giving it a spectrum of emotions that range from romance to distress, all rolled up in a nostalgic fashion.

Just when you think you’re on the brink of an emotional overload, ‘I Need You More’ hits you right in the feels, despite it having repetitive vocal hooks and displaying a more minimal side, which only adds to its overall beauty.

And as soon as it overwhelms you with hard hitting vibes, it finishes off with the beautifully melancholic ‘Avenue Road’, that is brimming with delicate guitar plucks, even more delicate piano chords and divine vocal reverbs, that create around it an atmosphere that is both mystical and sensual.
