In a move that might take music streaming to a new level, Billboard has teamed up with Spotify for an exclusive partnership, that will see the streaming service giant host more than 75 music charts and will include a weekly New Music Fridays editorial feature and three additional Spotify-centric tallies.
The three additional Spotify centric charts will be Viral 50, that will feature songs with the greatest volume of social and sharing activity, the Velocity Chart that will feature songs growing rapidly on Spotify, while Spotify Rewind will feature 5 songs from each decade, ranging from 1960 to the 2000’s.
Speaking about the partnership, Stefan Blom, Spotify’s chief strategy officer/chief content officer said.
“As the world’s largest streaming music service, it’s exciting to partner with a highly influential music brand like Billboard to help expand its chart offerings. We’re pleased to offer passionate music fans the ability to listen to hundreds of artists on the Billboard charts alongside new content, powered exclusively by Spotify.”
Billboard’s website will also feature a 30 second preview of each song on every chart, with full streaming options available on Spotify, while also featuring Spotify’s New Music Fridays playlist with each article, giving the readers an option of listening while reading.
