Rising mau5trap producer BlackGummy has been on the steady rise to success ever since his debut release on Joel’s highly acclaimed label this past year with his single “Lullaby” which made an appearance on the We Are Friends Vol.4 Compilation. Come 2016, the promising talent has dished out a heavy load of original work with his latest Singularity EP.
Known for his industrial sounds which collide between dark techno and pumping tech-house, I can safely say that this 4-track EP is by far one of the most cohesive pieces of work in a long time. Being a student of Steve Duda himself, the enigmatic artist kicks off the EP with “The Machine”. With ingenious use of retro vocal samples blended in between heavy industrial tech-house sounds led by synth stabs and a dark yet murky bassline, this one is ought to tear a club apart before breaking down ultimately with a melodic interlude. Next up is “Plucking Technology” which will make you hit back at deadmau5‘s “Sofi Needs A Ladder” after you get done with this. An interesting contrast in style indeed, this melodic electro piece is one of the strongest points of this EP.
“Alarm” lays down a soft melody before breaking into a step based progression which sparks chaos with heavy synth sampling and a thumping bassline. Wrapping things up, “The Unseen” is a perfectly conclusive soundtrack made possible by its eerie and haunting buildup which certainly carries a dark undertone beneath. But don’t give up on it just yet as it blows up with spooky yet funk filled synth stabs adding to the multi-faceted sound of the single.
