Jack Ü‘s debut single “Take Ü There” holds a special place in our lives being the introduction of the supergroup to the world and yes you already know what followed. However, the story behind the song is not what it looks like. Recently enough, in a Genius annotation, Diplo made a sparkling revelation that the breakout hit was originally produced for R&B star Usher.
“”I do a lot of beats for Usher. We initially made it for him with a fast, up-tempo beat, and he did a little vocal on it. Then we recorded the song with Kiesza. We met her in Ibiza and I liked her show. She had a big hit at the time called ‘Hideaway’ and I loved her voice.”
And if you’re willing to discover something more, here it goes. Wesley Pentz also added some spice to the whole story saying that Usher’s voice is still somewhere on the track –
“I actually think Usher’s voice is still in the beat somewhere—a high-pitched sound on the piano,”
*Sigh*. That’s a heavy load to digest but considering the fact, it feels impossible to imagine the crazy hit without Kiesza on the vocals. But we won’t give up on a Jack Ü x Usher collaboration just yet considering they had an foursome studio session back in 2014 and with the promise of a new Jack Ü EP planned for 2016, we can just hope for some fruitful results.
