The Toronto trio, Keys N Krates are ready to drop their much awaited Midnight Bass EP bundled with their recent creations “U Already Know“, “I Know You“, “Save Me (feat. Katy B)” and “Nothing But Space (feat. Aqui)“. Consisting of the turntablist JR Flo, keyboardist David Matisse, and drummer Adam Tune, Keys N Krates had a busy summer dropping the singles off the EP and it is finally seeming to come together. Since their dawn in 2008, the trio has tried to combine their wide range of inspirations, from early house music to a strain of southern U.S. rap and recent future bass sound. With Midnight Mass EP, the trio delivers a perfect amalgamation of their inspirations.
Already released as singles, “U Already Know”, “I Know You” and “Save Me (feat. Katy B)” have been on the minds of fans for quite some time. Inspired from older rave sounds, “U Already Know” features an excellent drum rolling beat that is providing a platform for other things to happen. Rolling bass drops and highly glitchy vocals are giving signature Keys N Krates touch to the trap(py) future bass track. With more of a soft touch, “I Know You” provides lush chords sustaining in the background as the track builds with the vocal sample “I Know You” and drops with frosty sound effects. The drop features a chill-step-like drums with bass drops and excellent vocal chops. Already having dropped the original and remix pack for “Save Me (feat. Katy B)“, There’s not much to say about the track. Unexpected bass drops will make your heart miss a beat while the sweet voice of Katy B keeps you spellbound to the luscious chords and a powerful bassline driving the whole track.
The recent addition “Nothing But Space” features chilling vocals of Aqui. Starting with Pitch-shifting chords taking stops at perfect spaces, the vocals take the top line in the mix. The kick drum beats lead to the buildup which lands to the drop with a smooth, mood-setting lead sound accompanied by moving bass drops. The emotions and feels are strong with this EP by Keys N Krates. Soon to embark upon the Midnight Mass tour, the trio has built the perfect collection of music to cater to their fans.
