Comprising of Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine, Fur Coat are one of those dynamic duos who have together led themselves to a musical knitting, which wraps itself magnificently over the shoulders of the music industry. The Venezuelan natives are now based in Barcelona, and have their contended story of the passion for electronic music that is a tale of deep, dark driven beats and rolling grooves that both encapsulates the mind and moves the feet.
The journey of Fur Coat began when in 2010 Crosstown Rebels founder Damian Lazarus dig up Fur Coat and in-no-time signed and released their much adored ‘Space Ballad’ EP. Whilst it was Sergio and Israel’s exceedingly impressive single featuring vocals from Cari Golden, ‘You and I’ that put their name on global music map.
Presenting no sign of quenching the fire throughout 2012, Fur Coat brought remixes for labels such as Culprit, Get Physical and My Favorite Robot, and finally gave their career the much needed edge by releasing their debut album ‘Mind Over Matter’ on Crosstown Rebels once more. A smooth blend of club bombs and downtempo grooves that also received rave reviews, Fur Coat’s debut album was a perfect way to end a landmark year.
Following the success of the album is a hard act, but the duo of Fur Coat managed to traverse this rocky path with excellent ease. With super performance comes definite demand, therefore it wasn’t long before Fur Coat were called upon to sprinkle their incredible magic to rework legends such as Timo Maas & Robert Owens as well as Kidnap Kid & Joy Wellboy. Timo Maas’ ‘The Hunted’ is a clear indication of the evolving nature of their sound and we’ve to say their version of newcomer Kidnap Kid’s ‘Like You Used To’ still stays strong in our playlist.
Came April 2014 and we saw another landmark as Sergio and Israel released their first original material since ‘Mind Over Matter‘. ‘There’s No Time’ landed on the much hyped Hot Creations imprint from Jamie Jones & Lee Foss and still gets hammered by some of the biggest players in the industry today.
‘The Right Move EP’ came hot on-the-heels last year on legendary Berlin imprint Bpitch Control. Featuring the vocals of Jaw from DOP on the title track, the EP was another successful project. Around September last year, the Fur Coat as they returned to Crosstown Rebels released their much anticipated 4 track EP ‘U Turn’. With ‘U Turn’ the techno boys headed back for a triumphant return to their spiritual breeding ground. Deep and moody, technically on point and overflowing with mesmerizing bleeps, tracks like ‘Roundabout’ and ‘Borsch’ are created to be dramatic in tension and shards of vintage techno.
Some of the recent works of Fur Coat include their single ‘Monday’ and remixes for Ruede Hagelstein’s track ‘Soul Dynamic’ and Stephan Bodzin’s ‘Sungam’. And definitely not-to-be-missed is their Balance compilation which is a seamless fusion of bold, dramatic synth lines, heady atmospherics and rhythms that without a glitch blend the organic and electronic elements.
