By The Pier V1

Dance Music has this ethereal quality of discovery, that drives fans and artists alike, pushing them to find new horizons, in their own personal utopia. It comes as no surprise, that in this day and age of tireless schedules, social networking and exhaustive routines, we forget that life is about making every moment count. For the patrons who had the pleasure of attending the first By The Pier event, back in November 2014, most would agree that this is what Regenerate‘s crown event is all about. What started off as a annual celebration, became a historic landmark event in India’s Dance Music fabric. Without an MC, without the pyrotechnics, without the glaring lights – the By The Pier event was about what true Dance Music has always been about – people. And people came, they smiled, glistened in the night, shimmering like the stars covering the ocean a few feet around them. Making the night historic was the emphatic lineup of that night, and by the looks of it, the folks at Regenerate are ready to take each experience to a “2.0” as they host a remarkable ensemble of acts this time around.

The event will feature a legend in the guise of veteran DJ-Producer A Guy Called Gerald. An iconic name in dance music, A Guy Called Gerald stands out for consistent innovation, excellence and refusal to compromise.Having started Europe’s acid house frenzy with his ’88 classic ‘Voodoo Ray’ and ‘Pacific State‘ (as part of 808 State) and went on to lay down the blueprint for jungle / drum n bass. Nine albums and 25 years of independence later, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic dance music touring worldwide bringing his “true school” flavour to a world overloaded with pop pap. Although his remixes are relatively enviable including the likes of David Bowie, Cabaret Voltaire, Black Uhuru, Finley Quaye, Lamb, Tricky and The Stone Roses, it is Gerald’s own productions and refusal to plough anyone’s furrow but his own which has marked him out. A Guy Called Gerald is responsible for the birth of British dance music as you know it today and continues to explore what is possible both in the studio and in the club with his “Live in Session” performances.  There should be no doubt, that By The Pier 2.0 will be a journey and a history lesson, in the true upbringing of House music.

While the outdoor event will be headlined by House maestro Gerald, the afterparty is going to be adorned by Techno giants Whyt Noyz. Formed in late 2010, Whyt Noyz consists of David Sidley and Duncan Murray, two lifelong friends who grew up sharing a passion for electronic music. In three short years the duo have created a unique style that combines driving techno, live drums and innovative vocal samples to devastating effect. Early demos were picked up by none other than Richie Hawtin who quickly signed one of the tracks “Volcano” to his Minus12 label. Following the SCI+TEC E.P they started to receive support from some more of the heavyweights of Techno and were asked to write E.Ps for Sian’s Octopus Recordings and Kaiserdisco’s KD Music along with remixes for good friend Arjun Vagale, Alex Costa and Monika Kruse’s label Terminal M. They followed up on this success by signing their first full E.P to Minus. The E.P hit the top 5 of the Techno release charts on Beatport and saw support from Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 show. Following on from the Back To The Future E.P the boys have spent 2014 travelling across Europe supporting Richie Hawtin at Minus events such as the legendary Ten Days Off in Belgium, Kappa Futur Festival in Turin and back on home soil for their gig warming up for Richie at Fabric, London. As they progressed into the summer of 2014 this brought their second Minus E.P titled “It Grows“.
