Christian Smith is a figure that has earned a name for himself as one of the most quintessential techno artists in the world and continues to inspire younglings till today. The DJ/producer has covered a long journey in the industry, and as one can see, there is no stopping for the man just yet! As Delhi gears up for one of the most awaited nights of the tech-house scene, we bring to you every thing you need to know about this Swedish legend who stood through the changing face of the industry, producing music that always shone out from the rest of its kind.

However, it wasn’t a DJ career that Smith had intentionally planned out for himself. It so happened when in 1989 he moved to New York City where he came across the emerging love for techno music in America. Then in 1999, as Smith moved to Washington DC to study international business at university, he realized his potential as a DJ and started playing at clubs in his spare time. This was followed by the release of his first record ‘Overdose’ under the name ‘Neuromancer’ on a label called ‘Music Now’ in 1992 which was received quite well. Smith’s initial works involved house infused techno and experiments with funk and soul.

The man decided to go big in 1994 as he released his own record label ‘Tronic’ Records but unfortunately had to put it on hold after releasing three records on it due to his priorities as a full time university student. He however continued to dish out records in collaboration with artists like John Selway and decided to go forth with releasing his record ‘Goldrush’ on his revived Tronic label in 1997. ‘Goldrush’ was a track that went viral with its hard disco beats all over the world and carved a niche for the DJ in the industry. Smith found support from legendary artists like Carl Cox and Dave Angel, who inspired him to make it bigger.

Smith was driven by music, unleashing new music with an incessant streak of genius, which was being admired all around the world through the 90’s, be it in America or Europe. His single, ‘Vanguard’ also received support by the BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong, certifying the success of the massive effort being put in his work. In 2008 the DJ was also honoured as Carl Cox’s “Hero of 2008”.

Through the years, the DJ traveled to Asia and Eastern Europe where he founded a fanbase as well. It is also because of his love for travelling that the DJ is up to beat with distinct tastes of various lands and incorporates this awareness in his productions. Reinventing his sounds time and again, Smith has always delivered fresh, exclusive music to his fans.
