The Brit Japanese producer, Maya Jane Coles has announced the release of her special collaboration EP with GAPS, called “In Dark, In Day”. The Brighton duo, Rachel & Ed, happened to send Rachel’s vocals to Maya, who wasted no time in signing them up for a four track EP.
Coles has continually featured guest voices that caress and startle. Her label, I/AM/ME, has previously released two of Coles House – Pop albums. She unwinds a few new strings by diverging from the classic sounds of her EP Comfort, this time around. The eclectic producer proves her love for experimentation, and has diverged onto pick up more deep and ambient vibes with GAPS, relinquishing a refreshingly mellow 120 bpm track list.
The title track In Dark, In Day (Original Mix), is packed with powerful vocals produced to a hauntingly unsettling melody, followed by Never Walk Away (Original Mix), an insane electronica piece. The light percussions and Ed’s guitar work, complement Rachel’s evocative yet melancholic tone, and Coles uses it very intelligently, given her knack for turning down the tempo in favor of the tune. The album features another deep number, It Rains (Original Mix), characteristically playing upon vocals and wraps up with an energetic instrumental of In Dark, In Day (Original Mix).
The coming together of Maya Jane Coles & GAPS will leave you wanting for more. Jane Coles loyalists would have a good time, marvelling at the woman’s insane plurality.
The album was released on the 8th of September and is available for download at Beatport.
