The Electronic world is undergoing tectonic shifts, and musical influences from all genres has permeated through into the musical style of MixMags’ ‘Greatest DJ of all time.’ Gone are the intense trance sounds circa 2009, and it seems the pop infusion is here to stay.

‘A Town Called Paradise’ epitomizes the extreme shift music has taken from the avant garde and niche sounds that characterized the EDM revolution, to the lukewarm, ‘synth’etic beats today.

You want to go to a festival or a club, sing along and make some great memories about your amazing night with all the relevant lyrical hashtags, this album is for you. Listening to this album, I couldn’t help but indulge in the same behaviour, starting with the anthemic ‘Wasted’, featuring Matthew Koma, which is sure to be the summer favourite this year. Which teenager can deny the generation defining lyrics, ‘I like us better when we’re wasted’? The sunny guitar riffs and teeny bopper kinetic beats are sure fire crowd pleasers.

Another standout from the album was ‘Red Lights’, which racked up over 12 million YouTube/VEVO views and 32million streams and counting. Another emotional crooner with guitar strumming and a happy drop sealed the idea that this album was less trance, more dance and a whole lot of sing along.

The track list boasts of a number of recognizable collaborations like Hardwell, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Firebeatz, MOTi and Dzeko & Torres, as well as a number of guest appearances from populaer vocalists Icona Pop, Matthew Koma, Ladyhawke, Zac Barnett from American Authors and Krewella.

The songs ‘Feeling’ featuring Ou Est Le Swimmin and Last Train featuring Ladyhawke have massive indie and rock progressive feels to them, and are some of the more memorable tunes of the album, showcasing amazing production skills.

Tiesto invites you to ‘A Town Called Paradise’, but what it should have been called is the sealed and stamped end of Dance music as we know it. While the music is fun loving and party centric, the beats are nothing new and frankly, tried and tested to ensure chart topping success.
