Historic Music event – Glastonbury Festival, has announced its lineup for its 2014 edition, and from the looks of it, this may just be one of the most exhaustive lineups ever recorded for the Somerset based festival! The 5-day festival, is famous for its open-minded approach, and discovering and catapulting musical talent at the world stage, have featured Jay-Z & Kings of Leon in 2008, The Smiths way back in 1984 and a-little-less-famous Coldplay back in 2002. Festival founder Michael Eavis returns this year with a staggering lineup with acts ranging from Electronic, Reggae, Folk, Hip-hop, Pop and interestingly, a string of Hard rock acts. The prestigious Pyramid Stage will be headlined by consistent headliners Arcade Fire and for the very first time, by legendary Rock group Metallica! Here’s what Eavis had to say about them being added to the line-up!
We’ve never limited ourselves to one particular genre and we’ve had pretty much everything over the years, including rockier acts like Rage Against The Machine, who were just incredible here in 1994. We try very hard to give our crowd the biggest and best acts that are out there at any given time. So when we heard that one of the most popular bands in the world was desperate to play here, we phoned them back! I think that in a funny way Metallica will bring a bit of the Arcadia spirit to the Pyramid Stage when they play. It’s that heavy spectacle that’s always existed here on the fringes, but I think it’s going to really blow people away on the main stage.
Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world, and is now attended by around 175,000 people, and this year especially, the turnout seems to be fantastic, where ticket sales sold out in record time of one hour and 27 minutes! In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts. Other acts that mark the calendar feature The War On Drugs, Nick Mulvey and English National Ballet – who will be opening the Pyramid Stage on Sunday morning with their performance of Akram Khan’s First World War themed ‘Dust’. The Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, James Blake, HAIM, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Horrors, M.I.A., Bryan Ferry will join Kasabian, Jack White, Pixies and Robert Plant as part of the mammoth lineup.
In terms of Electronic music, the line-up features some of the brightest and boldest talent from various Dance music cultures. With Skrillex, Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Disclosure, Bonobo, Four Tet part of the lineup alongside other musical acts, Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Stromae and Stanton Warriors will join Dance Music royalty Above & Beyond as part of the colossal line-up! With over 100 stages featured in this year’s Glastonbury Festival, it certainly is building up to become one of the biggest things to happen to music this summer! Check out the complete line-up of acts below!
