Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll aka Kygo from Norway, is a 22-year old producer, who has quickly escalated from becoming the boy-wonder to worldwide-sensation in absolutely no time! Hailing from Bergen, he had been playing the piano since the age of 6, only to eventually begin designing his own compositions within a decade! His inspiration comes through Avicii’2010 single “Seek Bromance,” which inspired him to venture into the Progressive House bracket; and now, his remix of Syn Cole’s “Miami 82” on the Swedish superstar’s LE7ELS bring back life full circle! Billboard magazine sat down with the young producer to talk about his inspirations and his interaction with Diplo and Coldplay!

Avicii’s melodies were so simple and cool, and they were actually similar to the melodies I played on piano, I thought if I could teach myself how to produce and get those melodies out of my head and into the computer, maybe I could make some cool music too.

Kygo‘s passion for Progressive House grew as a mature producer, rather than one who believed in finding singular success. He would often spent months experimenting with different synthesizer and effects plug-ins, finding the perfect sonic terrain on which to take his melodies. While he found the direction the genre itself was taking was leading it to be stale and without soul, he began to infuse his own brand of classical-electro feel that his fans described as ‘tropical house’.

All the songs sounded the same. Suddenly, everything was about who had the most badass drop and I got really tired of that. I just wanted to make melodies. I started trying to do my own thing and let the melodies make the genre themselves.

Kygo has quickly and firmly established him as a force to be reckoned with. A testament to this was when highly acclaimed producer Diplo, caught wind of the young Norwegian producer and invited him to do a guest mix for his show on BBC Radio 1Xtra, on which Diplo introduced him to his listeners as “100% original.”

The magic didn’t cease there for Kygo. After hearing few of his releases, Coldplay’s Chris Martin reached out to Pete Tong to get in touch with Kygo’s Golden Hare management group. Kygo revealed to Billboard, that he was commissioned to officially remix Coldplay’s latest single “Midnight”.

’Midnight’ is pretty different from the other tracks I’ve remixed, so it was challenging to work with it. I tried to make it my own and give it my own style and melody.

Things are certainly looking bright for this young sensation, as he brings a fresh wave of production value to the genres of Dance Music we all so love. Keep an eye on Kygo, to experience Dance Music of the future!
