Tomorrowland set to face negotiations; Not bound for court soon

Just last week, we’d reported that the globally renowned festival, Tomorrowland may be forced to cut down its festival from the planned two weekends to one due to complaints from residents in the surrounding village. Originally, the residents of De Schorre, Boom had signed a petition to cancel the second weekend and were going to take ID&T, the festival’s organizers, to court.

However, court may not be the immediate choice for either party so soon. On a television show called Reyers Laat, Griet Cnudde, the lawyer who’s representing the residents of De Schorre stated that she would like to negotiate with ID&T to find a solution rather than take matters directly to court. Cnudde, however, also added that she, “[doubts] whether the noise can be reduced so that the people in the neighbourhood can sleep”.

Cnudde who is said to hold a specialization in property law, isn’t new to fighting against large-scale events. As recently as last April, she had headlined the news when she won a case to move a famous Belgian fair, Sinksenfoor, to a new location after complaints of noise and nuisance. “I’m sure I’ll now be branded as an intolerant spoilsport, but that doesn’t bother me”, said Cnudde. With regards to Tomorrowland, she added that, “I’m as fond of a good party as the next person, but forcing people to walk around with bags under their eyes for two weeks isn’t really on”.

This comes as a bit of a relief for ID&T and the Tomorrowland team and we hope that the negotiations due to happen prove to be fruitful for the mammoth Belgian festival. Stay tuned to thebanginbeats.com for further developments with regard to the matter, as and when they emerge.
