John Langdon, chairman of Massive Advisors, LLC – a service provider to the global dance music industry providing economic research and strategic consultation, was invited to host a panel at this year’s Rio Music Conference.  Taking place between February 19th-21st 2014, the gathering will bring together the best in electronic music and entertainment south of the hemisphere! For those who may not know, Mr Langdon who was a successful Wall Street Investor gave up his well-paid job to pursue an alternate career as a DJ & producer and ventured into the Dance music industry as a producer, promoter and label owner!

Speaking about his journey thus far, and about his forthcoming presentation at the conference, here’s what John Langdon had to say.

A private equity partner of a multi-billion dollar fund becoming a producer/DJ at 40 is an anomaly. It is a true ‘sign of our times’ – when strategy, technology, hardware, software, and the global power of the internet merged, easing access to production and DJing. At no other time in history has this been possible – it is a black swan moment. I’ve played and obsessed over music my entire life – music is beautiful math. Four years ago, I ran into Motoe Haus, a 15-year LA-based music producer, who told me about the transformation in music and technology. The cost of a studio and DJ equipment was now in the range of the hobbyist. The next day, I built out a studio and didn’t leave the house for a while.

Mr. Langdon will be discussing his game plan for Massive Advisors, a view on the dance industry and its future from a Wall Street perspective, and how he is establishing Kalm Kaoz – his DJ project alongside Motoe Haus, as an authentic dance brand. Together with Haus, he formed Massive Enterprises and the DJ group Kalm Kaoz and their latest music video ‘Martian Stardust‘ which was shot in the desert of California got its world premiere this week. The video features the duo making first contact with some beautiful extraterrestrials, as parading beats and soft synthwork transforms into a harder bassline and more spooky pads and atmospherics over the course of the track.
