Red Bull Music Academy heads to Tokyo this year; Application Details Inside!

The Red Bull Music Academy has visited so many different musically and culturally rich cities over the past 15 years.  The’ve travelled from Berlin to London, and Madrid to Melbourne, and had a stint in New York last year. It has always been regarded as one of the world’s most forward thinking music initiatives.

This year, the academy will bring its offerings to Tokyo, Japan in October this year, uniting artists from all over the world with some local counter parts to explore all the diverse offerings the country has. Spread over two terms of 12 days each, the academy will house 60 upcoming musical mavens from across the world as they collaborate to create new magic.

Jivraj Singh, one of India’s most talented drummers and music producers, talented mohan-veena player Jeet Gupta and music producer Sonal D’Silva have represented India at the Academy previously. The Academy itself is meant for anyone with a strong  desire for music and anything to do with its evolution.Anyone can apply, whether they’re a producer, a vocalist, a sound engineer, an instrumentalist and even a DJ. Applicants need to download the form which is then handwritten, and needs to be submitted with a demo audio CD that is playable in a standard CD player. Red Bull Music Academy held its first session in Berlin in 1998 and has since taken its kaleidoscopic array of events, workshops and studio sessions right around the world. Each event boasts of specially designed workspaces, high-end recording studios, and communal spaces – installed with an exhibition of local established and emerging visual artists. By night, Red Bull Music Academy presents a festival of ground-breaking signature concerts and parties held in the city’s cult venues, cultural institutions, and hidden spaces.

To tell the story of its 15 year journey, Red Bull Music Academy has invited award- winning director Ralf Schmerberg to create a full-length feature film: What Difference Does It Make? A Film about Making Music that explores the challenges that a life in music can bring.
