Sunburn Goa 2013: Day 2 Highlights

Day 2 at Sunburn was even bigger and better with huge champions of their genres commandeering their respective stages. The festival fever peaked with spectacular trance acts Arnej and Markus Schulz, house hero Quintino, tech house specialists Kohra and Marco Bailey, and bass maestro DJ Fresh.

We began with a glimpse of DJ Clement, who was making the crowd go crazy with his repertoire of commercial big room sounds. Special mention to the awesome mashup he played of DVLM’s Ocarina and Pendulum’s The Island.

The bass junkies in us caught quite a bit of Indian talent Sound Avtar’s set, and as always, he had been consistent in destroying the crowd. Dishing out pulverising bass was the objective of his mission, which we must say, was accomplished with decoration. From drum ‘n’ bass to dubstep to moombahton, his set was literally mental.

We followed up with a little bit of Shaan, whose set was oozing with energy, with his fan following grooving to each drop he shelled out.

Shaan

Playing some brilliant mash-ups and electro/big room numbers, Lost Stories had the crowd grooving. They really got us jumping when they dropped a Hardwell/Gorillaz mashup of Spaceman and Feel Good Inc, followed by a massive electro track by Showtek, Booyah.

Arnej played a monster set, lending his own unique musical touch to the eclectic mix of trouse and trance that comprised his set. Not to mention the special mashup of Tiesto’s Love Comes Again and W&W’s Lift Off.  The main stage was packed with a jumping frenzy of fans.

He was followed by none other than Mr. Unicorn Slayer, Markus Schulz, who played a two-hour, unadulterated trance set. It was definitely a set that would get the nod of even the staunchest of trance purists. What was most spectacular was that he played the typical Coldharbour brand of sound that made him famous.

Markus Shulz

On the Love Machine stage, drum’n’bass and dubstep producer DJ Daniel Stein a.k.a. DJ Fresh was destroying the crowd with his number one hit singles, Hot Right Now and Louder. We also heard the a mash up of his DnB banger Gold Dust by DJ Fresh  and Endorphins by Alex Clare. The crowd was buzzing with some heavy bass when he launched remixes of Killing In The Name Of by Rage Against The Machine and Nirvana’s iconic Smells Like Teen Spirit, proving his ability to bring various music genres to the mainstream audience before ending his set with a completely new untitled track. In his words, the audience at Sunburn was the first to hear this track.

Quintino

Quintino

Quintino, the talent behind the amazing banger Epic, truly played an epic set. The track selection was brilliant, consisting of electro mixes of Clarity, Losing My Religion, Sweet Nothing and Alive, just to name a few. The crowd went bonkers when he stopped his set and asked them to sit down and wait for him to press play, making everyone jump in unison. The next best moment came after he played Alesso’s If I Lose Myself and embraced the crowd with champagne. To end his power-packed set, he dropped the massive hit Tsunami. The crowd loved him so much that it chanted his name continuously after his set ended, convincing him to step down from the stage to meet his fans.

With that, Day 2 had something for everyone’s particular sub-genre preference. And what a spectacular day at that!
