Very rarely do we come across an event, a celebration of dance music, a rythmic culmination of audio beauty that leaves behind an imprint which is so priceless that words cannot describe it. Lucid’s ‘Space’ did exactly that for many! All through the monsoon Lucid brought down artists of various sub genres of electronic music, artists who everyone in India just had to hear.

Max Copper inaugurated ‘Space’ in July. Max was welcomed for his uplifting melodic music and harmonious sounds that we prepared ourselves for. He did his thing all through the two hour set he played and kept us dancing, gasping and wondering what the next episode of ‘Space’ was going to be like. The first episode of ‘Space’ definitely caught our attention and we were sure we would be back for all the other episodes!

Moombahton and Trap artist Dirty Audio dropped the bass like it was never dropped before and made the crowd dance hard. His sound was unlike anything we had heard in the past; it was upbeat, energetic and dirty. This LA native gave many original face lifts and ferocious drops, twisting them in directions you would not have thought of.

Following Dirty Audio was bass heavy Romanian artist Liar. His set had a collection of tracks that were nothing short of epic. Ravers kept their ears open to his music as there were many unexpected tracks dropped from start to end. Liar’s style was animated and bold much like him.

Bakermat is known for his beautiful house and techno music, the beauty of his music shone through his set. This young Dutch artist showed us that he is not constrained to a sub genre and is elegantly versatile. He eased the crowd with his originals and remixes, though many were not known to all, everyone seemed to enjoy it.

The moghuls of mash ups – Project 46 closed the Season 1 of ‘Space’. In their first ever visit to India, Project 46 left us completely speechless. This was presented by Lucid as a part of their Space campaign and was the last leg of the property which also comprised of other gigs like Max Cooper and Bakermat in the past few months.
Project 46 hail from Canada and comprise of a twosome who are known for their radio show Pancake. Ryan and Thomas as they are called by family and friends, heralded a mind blowing rise into the dance music fraternity with their breakthrough release ‘Reasons’ featuring vocals by Andrew Allen, which went straight to the #1 overall spot on Beatport. Living at opposite ends of their country has also not slowed down the steady flow of productions from the duo’s studios, as Ryan and Thomas still find time to post new tracks on their SoundCloud page very frequently.

As we trudged along and made our way to the oh-so-familiar Royalty in Bandra, we walked into a warm and smooth opening by Aman Walia as the ravers gathered around the club. But Aman pulled the audience straight onto the dance floor with quite a few crowd pleasers including Zedd’s “Clarity”, “Meet Her in Miami” by Gareth Emery and Tiesto & Dyro’s “Paradise”.
As the crowd slowly trickled in we expected similar outcomes of any gig, dance till the wee hours of the morning and rave on about how brilliant the set was the next day. But nothing could have prepared us for the boisterous set that Project 46 had in store for us.

Taking to stage at close to midnight, the duo charged onto the console like bulls in a china shop. They powered up and immediately opened with AN21 & Max Vangeli’s “People of the Night” and then suddenly turned to Zombie Nation – ‘Suede’. The crowd went completely ballistic with everyone pumped up by the magnificent energy that enveloped the dance floor thanks to the duo.
The duo pushed out hard-hitting tracks with blinding speed, one after another with no pause as they moved onto Salvo Lo Tauro’s Ese Punto Negro, Supermodels From Paris – “Keep On” and dropped a massive number by DubVision – “Redux”.
The beauty of this particular set by the duo was the ample amount of space to dance, the delighted crowd who urged and screamed the DJs to go on which only determined them to blow us up into tiny atoms of dance by spinning out more numbers like Arty feat. Chris James – “Together We Are”, a mash-up of Hardwell‘s “Spaceman” and their very own collaboration with Matthew Steeper – “No One”.
When we could not keep pace with this lightning duo, they almost killed us right off on the dance floor with more energy and raw dance magnetics like “You & I”, Swanky Tunes & Peking Duk’s “You Are Like Nobody Else” and also their very own latest single “Motionless”.
As the night progress, the duo showed no signs of stopping dropping tracks like Maarcos – “Blaze” and a mix of Swedish House Mafia’s – “GreyHound”. They continued to merge and spin and create ripples across the dance floor which left us with a memory of a lifetime.

The most admirable thing about this gig was the energy and excellent skills of Project 46. The Canadian duo won our hearts and took away our breath pretty much literally with their unsurpassable set. We would like thank Lucid for ‘Space’ and are looking forward to Season 2 next year!
