Joel Thomas Zimmerman has displayed fascinating diversity in the bulk of music he has recently released, dabbling in styles that range from industrial to ambient.

Thrown into these releases are a collaboration with Kill The Noise, as well as the recent, Suite 04b and Suite 02, which seem like productions that Deadmau5 fans have come to expect, and even a few, what seem to be, clips of tracks that posses many of the qualities found in more ambient music.

Joel’s latest release, “Omnifck”, sticks close to the latter (ambient) approach, never progressing in a sense of energy, but eluding to movement with lush sweeping textures. The track is really relaxing and ambient and Zimmerman has used a very soulful hip-hop drum pattern and atmospheric lead/ pad with just enough variation throughout to keep it interesting.

The overall vibe comes off a heavy low end and dark chord progression, not far off from Boards of Canada. However, light playful synth melodies shine through to level out the tone, creating a forward minded song that is a leap in a different direction for Deadmau5.
