Already one of the biggest music festivals on the planet, the Ultra Music Festival is planning on expanding its huge international schedule with an Australian visit in 2014.
Ultra Music was born in Miami and attracts around 150,000 visitors annually while also making stops in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ibiza and Korea. This year will see Ultra add a stop in Croatia before Australia is also apparently added in 2014.
During Ultra’s live streaming of UMF Korea, an Australian fan wondered aloud on Twitter if Ultra would ever make its way to his country. UMF TV, an official Ultra Twitter account, replied to the question with an affirmative, simply saying: “Yes it will in 2014.” No other information was given, and in the hours since the tweet in question has been deleted, leading to speculation that it may have been an errant, accidental leak.
This sliver of information seems to stack up. At Ultra in Miami this year, in between sets from Calvin Harris and David Guetta, the mainstage MC running through the stops on UMF’s worldwide expansion. “UMF Australia – that’s the furthest we’re going to go,” he said.
If the news does become official and Ultra decides setup in Australia, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise. With the rampant success of its core Miami event, the festival has seen rapid expansion in recent years, with stops in Argentina, Ibiza, Chile, Brazil and most recently Korea.
A festival down under certainly seems like the logical next step.
