Daft Punk Collaborators Part 4: Pharrell Williams

Glimpses of the preview at Coachella the same as an SNL advert spiralled a social media frenzy; a justified frenzy nevertheless, for when two robots decide to bring ‘human’ back to music, it’s worthy of unparalleled attention. Daft Punk may have been ambushing us with their little snippets, but come to think of it, this is probably the most suave way to build a hype to the point of implosion!

Part 4 of The Creators Project series focuses on Pharrell Williams. He starts on the note that ‘robot music’ is “not bound by time and space” and goes on to speak about how he met ‘the robots’ at Madonna’s party, his trip to Paris, working with Nile Rodgers, a mysterious and holistic pill of energy that erased his memory and that listening to it later on took him to an exotic island where everyday was ‘forever 4 in the morning’.

The video is rather beautiful and more aptly, ‘dreamy’, with flashes of Paris, the beach, sunrise and flashbacks. Pharrell also takes the album’s hype to another level by saying “beyond 3D, it’s like 4D; it’s in your mind”. He ends by saying “they’re gracious, they’re nice robots, they chose to stay”.
