In today’s EDM scene, perhaps we have seen it all! There is the usual concert or a gig and then there are also those massive festivals taking place around the world.
But here is a bit of news that might get you saying – “Are you really serious?”
Doron Ofir who is famous for giving us shows like MTV’s “Jersey Shore” and Paris Hilton’s “My New BFF” is coming out with a first of it’s kind EDM reality show! Doron has begun casting for the show by launching a website www.edmcasting.com that invites all DJ’s / Producers to fill up the application form and get a chance to be part of this innovative concept.
The backlash from the EDM purists has been huge over this (See Porter Robinson’s tweet below) but Doron was quick to clarify that all of this is being done in the best interests of the industry.
He says, “I understand this world [EDM] probably better than anyone else in the television entertainment pop-culture universe.”
“My background is from nightclubs…I broke artists long before there was ever an agency system that was actually representing electronic dance music culture. I would never have signed on to this project if I didn’t actually believe in the people who are putting it together.”
Only time will tell if this concept will be a huge hit or something that will end up serving a lesson to all those trying to manipulate the EDM scene!
On a different note, we wonder what would it be like to see our current crop of favorite DJ’s on such a show. After their recent comments on each other, Afrojack and Deadmau5 should definitely fit the bill for this one!
