Nintendo has officially announced the main cast for the upcoming live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda. Bo Bragason will star as Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will take on the role of Link.
In a statement shared on social media, long-time Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto expressed his excitement about the casting choices. “I am thrilled to reveal that Bo Bragason will be portraying Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be our Link in the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. I eagerly anticipate their performances and can’t wait to see them bring these characters to life on the silver screen,” Miyamoto stated.
Bo Bragason, an English actress, initially gained recognition in the 2017 TV series “Three Girls” and later appeared in the 2021 horror movie “Censor.” Since then, she has secured various other roles in both television and film. Notably, she also provided the voice for a young version of Luna in the 2021 CG-animated movie “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy,” which is connected to the Final Fantasy 15 universe.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, also from England, has a portfolio that includes roles in “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “Flora & Ulysses,” and “Pinocchio.”
The movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is a collaborative effort between Nintendo and Sony Pictures. It will be directed by Wes Ball, known for his work on “Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” Shigeru Miyamoto will co-produce the film alongside Avi Arad, a seasoned producer from Marvel. Wes Ball has shared that his vision for the film is to draw visual inspiration from Studio Ghibli productions, yet maintain a realistic feel.
Ball shared his enthusiasm and vision for the project, stating, “I have this fantastic concept in mind. I’ve been contemplating it for a long time—how amazing a Zelda movie would be. I aim to create a film that not only meets but exceeds fans’ highest expectations. I recognize the significance of the Zelda franchise and am committed to making this a serious, substantial film that provides an immersive escape for viewers.”
The release date for The Legend of Zelda movie is set for May 7, 2027.
Additionally, there is currently a discussion about numerous video game adaptations in the pipeline, questioning how many will actually materialize.
