The Beths Join Anti- Records and Announce New Developments
The Beths, hailing from New Zealand and known for their indie-rock flair, have recently joined Anti- Records. Coinciding with this news is the announcement of an extensive tour across North America and Europe. Additionally, they have released a music video for their latest track, “Metal,” marking their first new release since the expanded version of their 2022 album, Expert in a Dying Field. You can watch the video and check out their complete tour schedule below.
Exploring the Theme of “Metal”
Elizabeth Stokes, the lead vocalist and guitarist of the band, expressed that “Metal” explores the experience of living within the confines of a physical body and her recent personal health struggles. She described feeling as though her body was a once reliable vehicle that is now beginning to falter beyond her control. She reflects on the improbable complexities of life’s journey, her eagerness to learn about the world and herself, despite feeling at odds with her own body’s shortcomings. Stokes marvels at the intricate nature of the human body, likening it to a complex machine.
Stokes shared that she often finds herself caught between awe of her body’s complexity and a harsh self-criticism reflected in the mirror, where she might label herself as inadequate or unworthy. These harsh self-judgments are the “short words” she references in the song, which she uses to dismiss her potential accomplishments.
The Upcoming Tour
The Beths’ tour is set to kick off in Dublin, Ireland, on September 18. Following their performances throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, they will proceed to North America where they will visit numerous cities across the United States and Canada. They will be joined by various artists like Phoebe Rings, Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords, Squirrel Flower, and Illuminati Hotties at select concerts.
Their album Expert in a Dying Field was also featured in “The 50 Best Albums of 2022,” indicating the impact of their musical achievements last year.
