Beatport bought by SFX Entertainment!

Yes, it’s true; Your local music messiah, Beatport.com, has been purchased over by SFX Entertainment this week. The purchase was part of SFX Entertainment’s plan to eventually become a 1$ billion empire in the dance music industry.

SFX Entertainment initially started as a promotions company in the 90′s and was revived last year to enter the Nightclub & Dance Music scene.

Although Matthew Adell, CEO of Beaport, refused to comment on the price tag on this priceless buy, two close sources who were present at the signing and weren’t supposed to reveal the information (but did anyway, proving beneficial for us), said the deal was cracked at ‘a little over $50 Million‘.

Robert F. X. Sillerman, owner of SFX Entertainment had this to say about Beatport:

Beatport gives us direct contact with the D.J.’s and lets us see what’s popular and what’s not.  Most important, it gives us a massive platform for everything related to E.D.M.”

This isn’t the only notorious purchase the company has made as of late. Last month, SFX purchased five new companies to add to it’s ever-growing empire, which includes Voodoo Entertainment, ID&T, Dayglow Productions (“The World’s Largest Paint Party”) and Disco Donnie Presents.

Matthew Adell, CEO Beatport, believes that this purchase could help them enter into the events sector as well as help them internationally. He was quoted saying,

“We already are by far the largest online destination of qualified fans and talent in the market, and we can continue to grow that.”

Beatport had $15-18 million in revenue last year but had losses of around $2 million.

Rezonate – Ash (Original Mix)

We’re going to bring you some good oven-fresh produced dubstep today. Canadian producer, Nick Rennie, also known as Rezonate may not ring a bell to you, and fair enough so – he’s new, but we promise you it will soon enough. Rezonate had earlier brought in a track called Phoenix that did fairly well, and now he’s back with a charting track that’s climbing it’s way up.

Rezonate belongs to that side of dubstep that seems like the good guys in a superhero flick. A quick listen to his music, and you’re going to realize that you’ve heard that sound before, that genre of dubstep does ring a bell, and yup, you probably have, because it does indeed sound like Seven Lions. And fair enough, Rezonate has listed his influences to be Seven Lions, and that’s one helluva influence.

Regardless, the song sounds absolutely beautiful, with it’s highly melodic and harmonic synths cruising through those pads that please your ears. Had you not been able to ID this track, you would’ve guessed it to be a release of Seven Lions that you hadn’t got your hands on yet.

The song is released on Monstercat Media that surprisingly never seems to disappoint. (A quick browse through their tracks and you’ll understand why.)

Shazam cracks a deal with Beatport, track IDs more easily now.

D.J.’s in nightclubs sometimes brag that the songs they play are obscure enough to be “un-Shazam-able.” That distinction will soon be harder to attain, however, as Shazam, the popular name-that-song app for smartphones, expands its database through a deal with Beatport, the leading online dance-music store.

Shazam, which says it has 275 million users, has become one of the world’s most popular apps by quickly “tagging,” or identifying, songs as they play, whether on the radio, on television or in a D.J.’s set. Dance music is one of its most popular genres, making up 31 of its 100 most tagged songs last year, Will Mills, Shazam’s director of music and content, said in an interview. Even though Shazam has a catalog of more than 25 million songs, it is not enough — particularly in the fast-moving dance genre, in which songs uploaded from a producer’s laptop can become instant underground hits. That is where Beatport comes in. Founded in 2004, Beatport has become the de facto central store for dance downloads, often getting them long before other retailers. The company says it releases as many as 20,000 new tracks each week, about a third of them not available elsewhere. Shazam says the deal will add about 1.5 million songs from Beatport to its database, which when tagged can send users back to Beatport to buy the tracks; users can also watch a YouTube video, for example, or share it on facebook. Shazam also has a few tricks that can help in a dance club — for example, it can identify a song even if it has been sped up or slowed down, as D.J.’s often do, or if other sounds interfere, like shouting patrons or the occasional bullhorn.

“There is always going to be an element of D.J.’s putting on effects and layer sounds,” Mr. Mills (Shazam’s director) said. “We’ve got that bit sorted.”

Apster – Bucklekneez (Original Mix)

One listen of “Bucklekneez” and it’s very easy to understand that, Apster makes a great addition to Afrojack’s label, Wall Recordings. The young Dutch artist stays true to the dutch house name, with high energy progressions and extended climbs that will ignite any crowd. Like turbine engines revving up, the song drops into some classic highs that alternate being relentless and then slightly reprieving. There’s also a very warm melody in the break, which takes all the time it needs to mature into a full fledged, back-breaking stomp. It’s no wonder that two of Apster’s tracks ended up being on Afrojack’s Favorite Wall Recordings of 2012 Beatport chart.

As always Apster brings something original, unexpected, insane, containing a fresh vibe to the table with ‘Bucklekneez’. Synthesized bigroom melody, long growing breakdown and a catchy electro dutch bass line, which destroys any dancefloor its played on. This will blow your mind completely.

Ansol & Dyro – Top of the world (Dyro Dubstep Rework)

Wonder boy Dyro is back. This time with a dubstep rework of the electro track he released earlier this year with Ansol which was destined to be a huge hit when Afrojack dropped it for the first time during UMF. Wasting no time by adding in some new synths and gritty basslines, Dyro totally reforms this track with some heavy bass to show that he is diverse with his production skills.

In case you didn’t hear the original earlier this year, here it is -

Dyro also released a remix of a song by the great vocalist Example earlier this month.

Don’t forget to show your support for this monster producer.

Bingo Players – Out Of My Mind

The Dutch Duo who primarily specialize in Electro house are coming out with another release. Paul Baumer and Maarten Hoogstraten have been busy in 2012 with bangers like ‘Cry (just a little)’ and of course the club thumbing ‘The Rattle’.  ’Out of My Mind’ starts out with a nice high-pitched synth and then delivers the bass you expect from any Dutch producer. All three tracks have been featured in sets during music festivals by the biggest Djs all throughout the year. All set to be released on the 12th of November, we see this doing excellently on the charts. I have to admit, it probably wont be able to top ‘The Rattle’; which arguably can be put in the top 15 club bangers of the year but nonetheless will knock your sock off!

Sander Van Doorn – Chasin (Charity Strike Remix)

Earlier this year, Beatport held a remix contest for up-and-coming producers to flex their skills by remixing a Sander Van Doorn track called Chasin. The contest closed on July 5th and a winner was picked. California based duo, Charity Strike was selected for their remix to be released on Beatport two days ago. The original has the typical SVD style with progressive build ups leading to a high pitched synth that uplifts the soul.

Charity Strike however takes this track, pushes the tempo and drops some heavy bass. Chopping up some of the essential parts of the SVD original and giving it a new age dubstep treatment, Charity Strike has proved with this track that they are here to stay. Check out the remix below along with some others they have done in the past.

Steve Aoki & Angger Dimas vs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – Phat Brahms

Anybody who is familiar with classical music will know the original composition that this track has been sampled from. Its been used in umpteen movie soundtracks and shows. Composed by one of the most influential and significant composers of the 19th Century, Johannes Brahms. Dropping the essence of the original in a high-pitched bleepy build-up, Steve Aoki, Angger Dimas, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike have tweaked this classical into an absolute #banger. I heard the preview a week ago and am so excited that it has finally been released. The amalgamation of electro and wobbly basslines really transforms this classical into an epic release ready to rock the dance floors. I can only hope that Steve Aoki drops this at his gig this coming Saturday at Kitty Su.
