If you’re a fan of Stephen King’s epic dark fantasy novel about a post-apocalyptic world, “The Stand,” you might be interested in a new offer from Amazon. They have recently started selling a companion anthology titled “The End of the World As We Know It: New Tales of Stephen King’s The Stand,” which was released on August 19. This hardcover anthology is currently priced at $24.48, down from its original price of $35. Authored under Stephen King’s approval, this collection includes a variety of short stories and features an introduction written by King himself.
Movie and Television Adaptations of “The Stand”
In a recent announcement from June, Paramount Pictures revealed plans for a new film adaptation of “The Stand,” with Doug Liman set to direct. Liman, known for his work on major action films like “The Bourne Identity,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” and “American Made,” brings years of experience to the project. However, the adaptation is still in the early stages without even a script in place. Given the considerable length of the original novel, it will be interesting to see how the film develops and how Paramount will handle the adaptation.
Previously, “The Stand” has been adapted into television miniseries twice. The first was in 1994 by ABC, which consisted of four episodes totaling just over six hours. More recently, in 2020, Paramount released a nine-episode miniseries that ran for 8.5 hours in total. Despite these lengthy adaptations, they only covered portions of the extensive storyline of the novel. Successfully adapting such a complex and long story into a film format presents significant challenges. Fans are hopeful that “The Stand” movie will surpass the reception of “The Dark Tower” film adaptation.
Television Miniseries Available on Blu-ray
For those interested in revisiting the television adaptations of “The Stand,” Amazon is currently offering a Blu-ray combo pack that includes both the 1994 and 2020 miniseries for $35, reduced from $45. Additionally, Walmart is selling an exclusive Steelbook Edition of the 1994 miniseries for $20.
