Longlegs Director Osgood Perkins says Leatherface "Can't Have a Love Interest" | SDCC 2025

Despite a hiatus from cinema screens, the iconic character Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series continues to stir discussions and rumors about his return. Previously, there were whispers that Osgood Perkins, known for directing “Longlegs,” might helm a new installment in the series, though it appears those plans are currently paused. Nonetheless, Perkins has hinted that he possesses insights on the essential characteristics of Leatherface’s portrayal in any future projects.

During a discussion at the “Next Wave of Horror” panel organized by Neon at San Diego Comic-con, Perkins addressed a fan’s query regarding the status of Leatherface. He confirmed that there were no new developments regarding his involvement in a new adaptation. However, he disclosed that he has engaged in extensive discussions with the rights holders of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre intellectual property, which has provided him with significant details about the character’s depiction. He specifically mentioned a strict guideline: Leatherface cannot have a romantic interest, under any conditions.

Perkins made a light-hearted comment following this revelation, saying “well now you’ve said it!” This remark may suggest his personal interest in exploring a romantic angle for Leatherface in any potential reboots.

In response to the same fan, Perkins expressed that it would be profoundly meaningful if Leatherface, who is speculated by some to be neurodivergent, was portrayed by an actor who is neurodivergent as well.
