R. Kelly’s Conviction Appeal Denied by Federal Court
In a recent legal development, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit confirmed the continuation of R. Kelly’s 30-year prison sentence, following his conviction on charges of federal racketeering and sex trafficking. The decision, issued on Wednesday, February 12, 2023, supports the initial ruling. Jennifer Bonjean, the legal representative for R. Kelly, described the decision as “unprecedented” in a comment to The Associated Press. She also expressed hope that the Supreme Court of the United States would consider hearing a further appeal regarding the case.
The judgment this week pertains specifically to Kelly’s federal case in New York. However, the renowned yet controversial R&B artist faces additional legal troubles, having been found guilty in a separate federal case in Chicago. In this case, he was convicted of producing child pornography and luring underage girls for sexual activities. The Supreme Court has already refused to review his 20-year sentence related to these charges.
