Sony has decided to reintroduce its classic console themes for the PlayStation 5 to celebrate the console’s 30th anniversary after they were previously removed earlier in the year.

In a recent update on the PlayStation Blog, the company revealed that it would be bringing back these popular user interface customization options. Starting April 24, players will be able to personalize their PS5 consoles with themes inspired by the previous generations’ consoles, including PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 home screen layouts.

Now in its fifth year, the PS5 has been at the forefront of requests from fans for the addition of dynamic themes, reminiscent of those available on the PS3 and PS4. Though the PS5 has offered some level of customization, it has largely lacked the comprehensive theme-based customization seen in its predecessors until last December.

Sony expressed its enthusiasm in a blog post, stating, “Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from our community, we are thrilled to reintroduce the nostalgic designs of our past consoles for players to enjoy on their PS5 home screens!”

The reintroduction of these themes was a part of the PlayStation’s 30th-anniversary celebrations which began in late 2024. These themes were initially introduced as a way for fans to celebrate Sony’s rich history in gaming, featuring both visual and audio elements reminiscent of each past console. Despite their removal on January 31, 2025, Sony had committed to bringing these themes back to the fans.

Starting tomorrow, these classic themes will be available once again, and they will retain the same beloved designs as before. Players can find these options under the Appearance settings on their PS5. Fortunately, there are currently no indications that these themes will be discontinued again in the near future.

In addition to nostalgic themes, the upcoming system software update for the PS5 will introduce a new feature called Audio Focus. Detailed in today’s blog post, this feature enhances accessibility by allowing players to adjust specific audio elements to suit their needs, with presets available for emphasizing either dialogue or sound effects. This can be adjusted for headphones connected through either USB or an analog jack.
