Nintendo Switch 2 Preorder Guide

Nintendo has decided to postpone the pre-order launch of the Switch 2 in the U.S., citing challenges due to tariffs implemented during Trump’s administration and changing market dynamics.

Originally scheduled to start on April 9, the U.S. pre-orders for Switch 2 are now on hold, with no new commencement date announced yet. However, Nintendo has confirmed that the actual release of the Switch 2 will proceed as planned on June 5, 2025.

Due to the need to evaluate the effects of recent tariffs and shifting market conditions, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025 as previously scheduled. Nintendo will provide updates on the new timeline soon. The release date remains June 5, 2025.

The Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, with a special Mario Kart World bundle available for $499.99. The game Mario Kart World itself is priced at $79.99.

Today, Nintendo hinted at the possibility of increasing prices for the Switch 2 and its games, amidst significant dissatisfaction with its pricing strategy for the next-gen console.

In a recent video on their YouTube channel, former Nintendo of America PR managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang expressed their concerns over how Nintendo announced the pricing for the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World during this week’s Nintendo Direct.

“This might seem exaggerated, but it really feels like a critical moment for Nintendo,” mentioned Ellis.

The U.S. stock markets experienced a downturn today following China’s retaliation against Trump’s extensive tariffs. With an impending 54% import tax from China, the country has responded by imposing an additional 34% tax on U.S. products starting next week.

Just before the U.S. stock markets opened, Trump remarked that China “made a mistake in their response, they should not have panicked,” and he emphasized that his tariff policies “will stay the same.”

This escalating trade tension between the U.S. and China is introducing a new wave of economic uncertainty globally, leading some media outlets to declare that the era of inexpensive consumer goods in America might be coming to an end as higher tariffs contribute to inflation and rising prices.

Tariffs, which are essentially additional costs on imported goods, often end up being passed on to consumers, and this is especially true for technology and gaming products where price increases are highly probable.
