Neil Young has unveiled his latest musical project—a new album titled Talkin to the Trees, created with his newly formed live band, the Chrome Hearts. The album is introduced with a pointed protest track, “Lets Roll Again,” which calls on the American automotive industry to compete with China by accelerating the production of electric vehicles. In his song, Young emphasizes that China has taken the lead in this area, a fact he finds difficult to accept.
In a melody reminiscent of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land,” Young specifically targets Elon Musk in one of the verses: “If you’re a fascist, then get a Tesla/If it’s electric/It doesn’t matter/If you’re a Democrat, then taste your freedom/Get whatever you want, and taste your freedom.” The accompanying music video starkly features a “Heil Tesla” graphic that shows Musk giving a salute similar to those seen in Nazi imagery.
Talkin to the Trees is scheduled for release on June 13 and includes the debut single from Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts, titled “Big Change.”
