At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Chappell Roan emerged as the winner of the Best New Artist category, surpassing fellow nominees Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter, Raye, Benson Boone, Khruangbin, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. During her acceptance, Roan delivered a poignant speech, calling on the music industry to ensure healthcare and adequate support for emerging artists.
Roan expressed in her speech, “I promised myself that if I were ever fortunate enough to win a Grammy and stand before the industry’s most influential figures, I would advocate for record labels and the broader industry, which earns millions from artists, to provide a sustainable income and healthcare, particularly for those still establishing their careers. It’s crucial that labels recognize their artists as essential workers deserving of fair wages, health coverage, and security. We support you, labels, but do you support us?”
Roan’s journey to the spotlight began with her 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Her popularity increased significantly following her 2024 hit single “Good Luck, Babe!”, which helped broaden her fanbase. This year’s Grammy nominations saw Roan competing in five additional categories, securing a spot in each of the prestigious Big Four.
