Global sales agency Cercamon has secured the international distribution rights for the documentary “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,” directed by Sepideh Farsi, an Iranian-French filmmaker. The film is based in Gaza.
The documentary is scheduled for its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival next month, showcased in the ACID program.
The film presents a poignant exploration of life in Gaza under blockade, centered around video conversations between Farsi and Fatma Hassona, a young Palestinian photojournalist. In a heartbreaking incident, Hassona was fatally struck by an Israeli missile at her residence, just a day after the announcement of the film’s inclusion at Cannes.
Utilizing unfiltered video and firsthand narratives, “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk” captures the everyday realities of conflict through the eyes of those who have lived through continual warfare, as portrayed by the filmmakers.

“We were profoundly touched by the incredible valor and resilience shown in this film,” remarked Sebastien Chesneau, a partner at Cercamon. “Through Sepideh Farsi’s directorial vision, we gain an insightful glimpse into Gaza, along with a powerful expression of hope, respect, and the resilience of the human spirit even in the toughest times. We feel privileged to distribute this significant, urgent documentary and share Fatma’s story with a global audience.”
Farsi, known for her films “The Siren” (Berlinale), “Red Rose” (TIFF), and “Tehran Without Permission” (Locarno), shared how the project started: “The film emerged from a compelling need to understand how individuals cope with life in Gaza. Discovering Fatem [as Fatma was affectionately called] felt like a miracle, leading to a profound bond during our year of dialogue. Her courage and humanity shone through in every exchange.”
She continued, “This film pays homage to her and to all those civilians enduring war, yet clinging to their aspirations. I am thrilled to work with Cercamon to bring Fatem’s impactful story to a broader audience in a meaningful way.”
“Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk” is a production of Rêves d’Eau Productions in collaboration with 24images. This documentary skillfully blends personal stories with real-time video and poetic elements to portray life amidst devastation.
