Astro Bot DLC Arrives Today as First of 5 New Expansions Coming to the PlayStation Platformer

New Expansions for Astro Bot Released by Sony

Sony has announced the launch of new expansions for Astro Bot, starting with the first installment available from today, February 13. This expansion includes five new levels and an equal number of unique bots. Additionally, a PlayStation 5 Pro patch has been released to support enhanced resolution at a smooth 60 frames per second.

Introduction of New Levels

A recent post on the PlayStation Blog revealed that the first new level, Tick-Tock Shock, is accessible starting today. The remaining levels—Thrust or Bust, Cock-A-Doodle-Doom, Hard to Bear, and Armored Hardcore—are set to debut sequentially each Thursday at 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK.

As Nicolas Doucet, the director of developer Team Asobi, explained, “Unlike our previous update, Winter Wonder, which was a leisurely stroll through a Christmas-themed park, this new update introduces more challenging levels designed to test your agility and jumping prowess.”

He further added, “Each level features a new Special Bot for players to rescue. Upon completion, these levels can be replayed in Time Attack mode, which also includes online leaderboards for competitive play.”

Continuing the Astro Bot Saga

This release marks the third major batch of downloadable content (DLC) for Astro Bot, which initially began with five speedrun-focused levels post-launch. The most recent addition before this was a festive Christmas-themed level.

Fans have been anticipating additional DLC, especially since several unreleased bots were hinted at in the Astro Bot credits. This release seems to include nods to other franchises, such as Rayman, Worms, Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, Croc, and Tomba. It is speculated that these may be the themes of the five special bots introduced in these levels. Specific levels like Armored Hardcore and Cock-A-Doodle-Doom suggest possible connections to the Armored Core and Doom franchises, indicating that characters from these series might appear as bots.
