Andrew Garfield - Spider-Man No Way Home

Andrew Garfield has openly expressed his eagerness to reprise his role as Spider-Man in a potential fourth film, following his appearances in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” and 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The latter film, which grossed $1.9 billion globally, saw Garfield join forces with fellow Spider-Men Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. Speaking at the Middle East Film & Comic Con, reported by Entertainment Tonight, Garfield mentioned that his return would depend on the project having an unconventional and imaginative storyline.

Garfield’s Vision for Spider-Man

Garfield emphasized his desire for a distinctive approach to the character, stating, “It would have to be very weird. I’m interested in exploring something very strange. Something very unique, offbeat and surprising, akin to the creative liberty seen in the animated ‘Spider-Verse’ movies.”

In a previous interview with Esquire magazine, the two-time Oscar nominee discussed the abrupt end to his portrayal of Spider-Man, which left him feeling “left dangling” after “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” underperformed commercially. This outcome led Sony to negotiate with Disney, allowing Spider-Man to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Tom Holland debuting in the role in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” However, the success of “No Way Home” has reignited interest in Garfield’s version of the superhero.

Garfield told Esquire, “For sure, I would 100% come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into. I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.”

Addressing rumors about his future involvement with the Spider-Man franchise, Garfield clarified to GQ UK that despite speculation, he has not agreed to join Holland in Marvel’s “Spider-Man 4.” He acknowledged that fans might be skeptical of his denial, saying, “I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s going to trust anything I say from now on.”

When questioned about his interest in returning as Spider-Man or joining another major Hollywood franchise, Garfield expressed that any future projects would need to resonate with his personal values and be enjoyable. He playfully added that future family plans might influence his decisions: “If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun. Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

Meanwhile, Tom Holland’s upcoming “Spider-Man” film has been officially titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” set for release on July 31, 2026.
