‘Simpsons’ Movie Sequel Sets Summer 2027 Release Date

The beloved Simpson family, consisting of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, is set to make a grand return to cinemas after two decades.

Disney’s 20th Century studio has announced that a new installment of “The Simpsons Movie” is currently being developed, with a theatrical release date of July 23, 2027. This new Simpsons film is taking the spot of a previously planned Marvel movie, which has now been removed from the schedule. Consequently, there will be a gap in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe releases between “Avengers: Doomsday” on December 18, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” on December 17, 2027.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, Disney and 20th Century have released a teaser poster on Instagram. The poster prominently features the iconic pink donut and includes the enticing tagline, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

Created by Matt Groening, “The Simpsons” holds the record as the longest-running animated series and sitcom on television. The show has been renewed up to its 40th season, which is scheduled to air between 2028 and 2029. Set in the fictional town of Springfield, the series explores the daily life of the Simpson family, which includes Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

The original “The Simpsons Movie,” released in July 2007, was a significant box office hit, grossing $536 million worldwide on a budget of $75 million. Directed by David Silverman, a seasoned director from the series, the film’s storyline revolved around the town of Springfield being sealed under a giant glass dome due to environmental contamination caused inadvertently by Homer. The possibility of a sequel has been discussed for many years, but it is only now coming to realization.

With numerous seasons and a feature film since its debut in 1989, “The Simpsons” remains a staple in popular culture, attracting new fans through streaming platforms, according to showrunner Matt Selman.

In an interview with The Bangin Beats over the summer, Selman expressed how streaming has revitalized the series. “Now, instead of catching it on local TV, fans can watch it anytime, continuously, which is a big change. Being available on Disney+ has injected new life into the series, a rejuvenation we didn’t know we needed but are grateful for,” he explained.
