Amazon is currently offering a great deal on the Detective Pikachu Limited Edition Steelbook, pricing it at just $28. This special edition was initially released in late April and its price peaked at $42.49 last month, prior to its launch. Today’s price ties the lowest ever recorded for this delightful collector’s item, which is a version of the popular live-action Pokemon movie.
The Detective Pikachu film first made its Blu-ray appearance in 2019. At that time, Best Buy offered an exclusive edition that came in a steelbook case. However, that version is no longer available; Best Buy has even stopped selling movies. On platforms like eBay, this edition is often listed at exorbitant prices. The newly issued edition features a different steelbook case that showcases Ryme City’s top detective.
It should be noted that the standard editions of Detective Pikachu are frequently sold at lower prices. Currently, the 4K Blu-ray edition is available for $15, and the 1080p Blu-ray version for $8.
Detective Pikachu has significantly altered the public’s perception and expectations of video game adaptations. It set a precedent for how live-action adaptations of game franchises, particularly those with cartoon-like graphics, should be approached. Before The Super Mario Bros. Movie broke box office records in 2023, Detective Pikachu held the title of the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time. As of the beginning of 2025, it ranked second, but that position was quickly overtaken by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 early in the year. A Minecraft Movie’s Steelbook Edition is being sold for $38, while Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has two unique Limited Edition Steelbooks: one featuring Sonic and another exclusive Amazon edition showcasing Shadow.
In October, Amazon will release an exclusive Ultimate Collector’s Edition for Five Nights at Freddy’s. This 4K Blu-ray edition includes a steelbook case and various collectibles, priced at $75. Preorders for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Ultimate Collector’s Edition are also set at $75.
