The upcoming live-action movie based on “The Legend of Zelda,” a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony, has officially announced its stars for the iconic roles of Zelda and Link.
Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo shared on a Wednesday social media update that actors Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth have been cast as Zelda and Link, respectively. The announcement was accompanied by early images of the duo dressed in their character’s costumes.
“It is with great pleasure that I reveal Bo Bragason-san as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san as Link in the live-action ‘Legend of Zelda’ film,” the Nintendo post stated. “I eagerly anticipate their performances illuminating the big screen.”
Bo Bragason, an English actress, is recognized for her work in BBC One’s “Three Girls” and “The Jetty,” and the Disney+ series “Renegade Nell.” She was also featured in Euros Lyn’s vampire comedy, “The Radleys.” Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, likewise from England, lent his voice to Pinocchio in the live-action adaptation by Robert Zemeckis and portrayed Miles in Netflix’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” His other roles include appearances in “Son of a Critch” and an episode of “The Sandman” on Netflix.
“The Legend of Zelda” movie is set to premiere on May 7, 2027. Initially scheduled for March that year, the release was postponed due to production delays, as stated by Miyamoto previously.
The film adaptation, eagerly anticipated by fans of the popular video game, is being directed by Wes Ball, known for his work on “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are on board as producers.
Following the commercial success of Nintendo’s “Super Mario Bros. Movie” in collaboration with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, there is considerable anticipation to see if “The Legend of Zelda” can replicate or surpass this achievement for Sony.
