Since its establishment in 2012, Vinyl Me, Please has been a source of exclusive, limited-edition vinyl records for its members, who pay up to $654 annually for a premium membership, according to a report by John Wenzel of The Denver Post last month. The report discusses a recent turbulent period that began with the March 2024 dismissal of three high-ranking employees. The company’s board accused these individuals of misappropriating funds for the construction of a record-pressing facility. Cameron Schaefer, the former CEO of the company, expressed his belief that their termination was a financial decision aimed at avoiding the cost of severance packages.
This upheaval has led to various operational problems, including delays in shipment, price hikes, and other complications as reported by club members. As per Wenzel’s findings, some customers noted that even up until last week, Vinyl Me, Please was still processing membership charges and marking products as available, despite the ongoing disintegration of both the platform and its client support services. One long-time subscriber, Erik “DJ Hazbro” Dunham, shared with The Denver Post, “It’s deeply upsetting to see a club that has significantly influenced my musical preferences and enjoyment come to such a disappointing end. It’s particularly distressing that this conclusion involves taking money from loyal customers under false pretenses, without any communication about the cessation of operations or the status of existing orders.”
Adding to the confusion, Vinyl Me, Please sent an email to its subscribers just last month—shortly after they started the liquidation process—informing them that it expected to resume normal operations by mid-May. The email also mentioned that subscribers would receive guidance on how to submit claims via email.
