Beyoncé Nabs First Album of the Year Victory for Cowboy Carter at 2025 Grammys

Beyoncé Clinches Album of the Year at 2025 Grammy Awards

In an illustrious update to her decorated career, Beyoncé has secured her first Album of the Year Grammy with her latest work, Cowboy Carter. Despite being a strong contender in this category on four prior occasions—with I Am…Sasha Fierce in 2008, Beyoncé in 2013, Lemonade in 2016, and Renaissance in 2022—this victory marks her inaugural win for Album of the Year. Including today’s accolades, Beyoncé has amassed a total of 35 Grammy wins, further solidifying her status as the most awarded artist in the history of the Grammys.

During her acceptance speech, Beyoncé expressed her gratitude, standing next to her daughter, Blue Ivy. “I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the firefighters who have protected us,” she said. “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and feel deeply honored. After all these years, I am thankful to the Grammys, every songwriter, collaborator, and producer who has been part of this journey. I dedicate this award to Ms. [Linda] Martell. Let’s continue to advance and open new doors. God bless everyone. Thank you so much.”

Stiff Competition in the Category

This year, Beyoncé topped a competitive list of nominees for Album of the Year, which included André 3000 with New Blue Sun, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Charli XCX with Brat, Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol. 4, Sabrina Carpenter with Short n’ Sweet, and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. Notably, this was the second occasion Beyoncé and Taylor Swift were pitted against each other in this category; the first was in 2010, where Swift’s Fearless triumphed over I Am…Sasha Fierce.
