New Features for The Legend of Zelda on Nintendo Switch 2
The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to receive some exciting updates, including new options for repairing gear.
Noticed first during a recent Nintendo Treehouse Live event and highlighted by YouTuber Zeltik, the Zelda Notes application—a mobile companion specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 iterations of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom—includes a Daily Bonus feature. This feature allows players to obtain various in-game perks such as effect-enhancing meals, boosts to health and stamina, and notably, the option for Equipment Repairs.
Both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom incorporate a durability system for equipment, causing weapons and shields to degrade and eventually break after repeated use. This feature has been somewhat contentious among players, so the addition of a method to maintain and repair favorite items like the Flameblade is likely to be well-received.
However, for those concerned about the new feature undermining the game’s challenge, it’s important to note a significant catch: randomness. The Daily Bonus is determined by a roulette wheel, meaning there’s no certainty that Equipment Repair will be the reward received. Moreover, the bonus can only be accessed once a day, with a timer that must expire before the next opportunity arises. Although this could be a crucial aid in urgent situations, it probably won’t alter the game’s overall difficulty significantly.
Apart from the occasional free Equipment Repair, the Zelda Notes app is set to introduce several other intriguing features. These include a unique achievement system tailored to both Zelda titles, as well as special audio memories that will expand on the lore and history of Hyrule’s various locales.
These enhancements aim to deepen the immersive experience of the open-world Zelda games, particularly for those players who were not fond of the frequent equipment breakage. Alongside these new features, there will also be general performance upgrades.
For additional details, there’s more information available on how the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to improve upon its predecessor’s game offerings.
