Vincent D’Onofrio, renowned for portraying the infamous antagonist Wilson Fisk in Hell’s Kitchen, has confirmed that his character is currently not available for any film adaptations. He shared this during a conversation with Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
“The definite negative I can provide is that it’s incredibly challenging for Marvel to feature my version of the character on the big screen due to complex ownership issues,” D’Onofrio stated.
He added, “My role as Wilson Fisk is confined to television only. There’s no possibility for even a standalone film centered around Fisk. The rights issues are knotted and it’s unclear if they’ll ever be resolved to allow such developments.”

This limitation significantly impacts the potential for D’Onofrio’s Fisk to appear in any future Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including potential blockbusters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. This restriction might also affect any plans for a Daredevil film featuring Charlie Cox, where one would expect D’Onofrio to reprise his role as the villain.
D’Onofrio debuted as Fisk, also known as Kingpin, a formidable crime lord and future mayor of New York City, in the Netflix series Marvel’s Daredevil, which premiered in 2015. The show concluded after three seasons and nearly 40 episodes in 2018. His performance has consistently received acclaim from both audiences and critics, and he’s very particular about how Fisk is portrayed, drawing inspiration from various influences.
“Bringing humility into action scenes has always seemed the right approach to me. It makes the scenes appear more realistic. For instance, Gary Cooper’s portrayal in Sergeant York, where his humility shines through even in intense moments, has been a major influence. It significantly enhances the action sequences,” D’Onofrio reflected.
Currently, D’Onofrio can be seen in Daredevil: Born Again, which is airing episodes weekly on Disney+. The season finale is scheduled for April 15, 2025.
