Discounts on Detective Pikachu’s New 4K Blu-ray Edition at Amazon
Pokemon enthusiasts have the opportunity to save on the new 4K Blu-ray release of Detective Pikachu through Amazon preorders. When Amazon initially opened preorders for the Limited Edition Steelbook earlier this month, it was priced at $42.49. However, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) was later reduced to $33, prompting Amazon to lower its preorder price to just $28. This price adjustment by Amazon likely followed a similar pricing strategy by Walmart, which also began offering the Steelbook at $28 through its distributor, Gruv. Both Amazon and Walmart provide a preorder price guarantee and will not charge your card until the item ships.
The beloved live-action Pokemon film was first issued in Blu-ray format back in 2019, including a 4K steelbook version exclusive to Best Buy, which is no longer available. For fans who missed out on that release, this is a great chance to own a stylish Limited Edition Steelbook featuring dynamic artwork of the famous Pokemon characters.
For those not interested in the steelbook version, the Detective Pikachu 4K movie is already accessible at a significantly lower price of $10—simply apply the coupon for the full discount. An even more economical choice is the standard Blu-ray, currently priced at $3.71 with a coupon on Amazon. These versions include the same bonus features as the forthcoming steelbook edition. However, be aware that these promotions are likely to end soon, by March 29.
Detective Pikachu has significantly impacted how video game adaptations are perceived and expected to perform. It set a new standard for live-action adaptations of other game franchises that feature a similar animated style. Until the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, which broke several records, Detective Pikachu held the title of the highest-grossing video game adaptation. It now ranks third, having been surpassed by the recent release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
If steelbooks are of interest, it’s worth noting that Walmart has just launched a new Limited Edition Steelbook for the Mario Movie on 4K Blu-ray. Additionally, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be available on 4K Blu-ray in April, featuring two steelbook options: one with Sonic cover art and another Amazon-exclusive version showcasing Shadow the Hedgehog.
