Jonathan Hickman, known for his transformative work on the X-Men series and the creation of a new Ultimate Universe, is preparing to launch another significant Marvel series. Marvel Comics has recently shared insights into Imperial, a four-issue series event set to alter the landscape of the broader Marvel Universe significantly.
Echoing the impact of 2023’s Ultimate Invasion, which introduced the ongoing Ultimate Universe series, Imperial aims to disrupt the current dynamics of Marvel’s cosmic entities and establish a fresh lineup of comic series. This narrative will see the overthrow or destruction of established cosmic authorities within the Marvel Universe, paving the way for new regimes. The narrative will predominantly revolve around the Hulk family, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Nova Corps, and other significant cosmic leaders.
The creative team for Imperial includes writer Jonathan Hickman with artists Federico Vicentini (known for Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and Iban Coello (known for Venom). Marco Checchetto, who previously worked with Hickman on Ultimate Spider-Man, will be responsible for the series’ cover art.

Hickman expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I am incredibly excited about this initiative as I have a deep passion for the Marvel Cosmic universe. The aim with Imperial is to replicate what we achieved with the recent Ultimate series for our space-oriented titles, but with Imperial serving more as an event catalyst rather than just a world-building venture (as was the case with Ultimate Invasion). The art team is doing fantastic work, and we are all thrilled about what we are creating in this unique sector of the Marvel Universe.”
From the released cover and concept artwork, it’s evident that significant changes are forthcoming in Imperial. The Nova Corps are set to face destruction once more, with Star-Lord expected to play a pivotal role in these events. Additionally, it looks like a Hulk family will dominate the brutal world of Sakaar. Black Panther’s involvement suggests that the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda will also be a key player in this unfolding conflict.
Imperial #1 is scheduled for release on June 4, 2025. We welcome your thoughts and theories about this upcoming book in the comments section below.
In further Marvel updates, a new Thunderbolts team is set to debut, featuring Wolverine, Hulk, and Carnage, plus we’ve obtained an exclusive preview of Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell.
