New Documentary To Measure The Evolution Of Dance Music Through Carl Cox And Martin Garrix's Careers

Looks like dance music is quickly becoming the flavor of the season among filmmakers. With a number of films, both features and documentaries, cropping up on the genre, a number of fans have complained about the films not matching up to their hype, or being factually incorrect, which has been the case more than often. However, there’s yet another documentary on the horizon, which might live up to the expectations.

Award winning filmmaker Bert Marcus is all set to portray the evolution of dance music through the careers of Carl Cox and Martin Garrix in his documentary, titled ‘What We Started‘. If you’re wondering about the odd combination of Carl Cox and Martin Garrix, it makes perfect sense. Carl Cox has been around the scene for nearly 3 decades, and is the perfect person to represent the growth of the genre, as well as the dance music culture over the years. Martin Garrix, on the other hand, is the newly crowned No. 1 DJ in the world, and his meteoric rise to the top will depict the current state of dance music. Featuring Pete Tong as the executive producer and the music supervisor, the documentary will also see the likes of Steve Angello, David Guetta (now we know what they were up to last year shooting for a documentary), Moby, Sasha, Ed Sheeran, Usher and many more.

Discussing the film, Pete Tong said:

This is a film that honors the spirit of and gives a discerning perspective on different generations of this movement in an unprecedented way and leads you on a globe-trotting journey that explores a dynamic and multi-layered industry.

While the film has been completed, there are no details about the release yet. All we can hope for is that the film does justice to the genre. Till then stay tuned for more details.
